Why

Image
Why did you think you were not deserving of love? You’ve been through hell but still fly like a dove It’s not your fault you got hurt to protect your own Yet she despised you for the seeds the devil sown   Why did you not knock on heaven’s door? You’ve been taught to do so yet chose to be poor You let them judge you and make you feel inferior When you had what it takes to be superior   Why were you so quiet about your traumas? You would have been free from instigated dramas But concealed it until it became a physical cancer Eating you up daily with no care of life enhancer   Why did you leave them behind? The fruits of your womb reliving your mind They could be better but chose “doesn’t matter” They could make better choices but think “maybe latter”   Why so many questions you may ask? I and you are one but I refuse to wear your mask Breast cancer may have taken you away from your kids But I know it’s the matters of ...

Deception Consequences

Image
Ignorance resulted in hush reality Red flags waved but clouds covered sanity Where obvious lies persisted While hidden truths existed   Demoralized from proving a point Judgements came from one side of the coin Only she knew her innocence But she welcomed the consequences   Selflessly uniting two wrongs to make a right She felt like a plant infected with blight Heart damaged by the pathogen of deception Yet regretful for overlooking its inception.   Finding her steps again from the fall She cries in remorse but stands up tall Utterly heart broken in silence But smiles to show resilience   Finally, she lays to rest all her strife And walks towards the podium of life With head held high she tries life again Trading one loss for great amount of gain

This Woman

Image
As today is International Women's Day with the theme, "Breaking the bias." I was inspired to write this piece within 20 minutes of my lunch hour break. Dedicated to our PNG women in profession. Picture courtesy of Two4 Media PNG.   I work hard and think it’s not better What they see, this woman is clever I go extra yards to prove I have what it takes What they see, this woman is not fake I apologize for lateness and think I’ll be omitted What they see, this woman is committed I admit a huge mistake and think I lost trust What they see, this woman is just I accept loads of tasks and think I’m deficient What they see, this woman is efficient I get angry and try my best not to be emotional What they see, this woman is professional I’m offered a male dominant role and think I’m not able What they see, this woman deserves a seat at our table

Brother In Blue

Image
This piece was written around this time two years ago. Upon the tragic loss of my cousin brother which left our families shattered and bitter. Photo courtesy of Emtv online. Dedicated to late Timot Kavanamur.   Words written but not spoken Hidden fears brushed away awoken Parents regret that release Siblings cry "come back please!"   Protecting your family was your duty Your strong-willed mind was your immunity Protecting your country was your dream Serving the people was in your blood stream   Law and order problems were at stake You said "Yes Sir" for peace sake You left without a chance to say goodbye That bullet left our hearts bitter and dry   Brother in blue full of life and humour You are our knight in shiny amour Young as you are, you are our pride Tough as you are, may your courage be our guide

Feni Island

Image
I love you just the way you are Your simplicity overwhelms me more Your rurality relieves my urban pressure While beneath you lie precious treasure   The spread of white sandy beaches The beautiful sunsets with sky colour of peaches The greenness of the raised-up vegetation The introduction skits on every occasion   The screams at the teasing sound of parrot thieves The rustling sound of wind through the leaves The beating of the drums from the distant The sound of crashing waves on the reefs so constant   I love the sand in my hair and between my toes The farewell feasts from families when one goes I love my maternal home Feni island My grandmothers’, my mothers’ and my homeland

Feathers of Hope

Milne Bay Raggiana bird from Bird Watching Papua New Guinea Beautiful Bird of Paradise so unique You never fail to mesmerize despite the critiques You reside in red mountains and black seas Guided by the stars of the South seas   You are so rich in resource Yet denied full income sources You keep giving and giving And they keep receiving and receiving   You decided to become independent Free from the exploitation dependents But they keep offering aid with strings attached Infecting your mind that you keep them latched     Maintaining relationships is your culture But the truth is your allies are vultures Ready to prey when the time is right Ready to be your strength when you have no might.   But beautiful bird you have now matured All hardships and failures endured You have mastered how to fly and soar Amongst the gust and stormy winds uproar     As you fly into your hopes and dreams Let the br...
