Beautiful Bird of Paradise so unique

You never fail to mesmerize despite the critiques

You reside in red mountains and black seas

Guided by the stars of the South seas

 

You are so rich in resource

Yet denied full income sources

You keep giving and giving

And they keep receiving and receiving

 

You decided to become independent

Free from the exploitation dependents

But they keep offering aid with strings attached

Infecting your mind that you keep them latched  

 

Maintaining relationships is your culture

But the truth is your allies are vultures

Ready to prey when the time is right

Ready to be your strength when you have no might.

 

But beautiful bird you have now matured

All hardships and failures endured

You have mastered how to fly and soar

Amongst the gust and stormy winds uproar  

 

As you fly into your hopes and dreams

Let the bright colours of your feathers gleam

For the world to see the rise of an improved version

Of a prestigious bird achieving its mission

As today is International Women's Day with the theme, "Breaking the bias." I was inspired to write this piece within 20 minutes of my lunch hour break. Dedicated to our PNG women in profession. Picture courtesy of Two4 Media PNG.   I work hard and think it’s not better What they see, this woman is clever I go extra yards to prove I have what it takes What they see, this woman is not fake I apologize for lateness and think I’ll be omitted What they see, this woman is committed I admit a huge mistake and think I lost trust What they see, this woman is just I accept loads of tasks and think I’m deficient What they see, this woman is efficient I get angry and try my best not to be emotional What they see, this woman is professional I’m offered a male dominant role and think I’m not able What they see, this woman deserves a seat at our table
